FG Launches TERAS For Technological Advancement

In a bid to transform education sector through technological innovations, the Federal Government has launched a digital platform, Tertiary Education Research, Application and Services (TERAS) aimed at uplifting education sector and empowering students,to meet international best practices.

The platform championed and initiated by TETFUND would among other benefits address national challenges caused by covid 19 on e-learning as well as explore opportunities for sustainable economic growth and development.

At the unveiling in Abuja,the Minister of Education, Prof Tahir Mamman reaffirmed the continuous support of the ministry to TETFUND towards fully realization of TERAS as a key component of repositioning, strengthening and rekindling hope in the Tertiary education sector.

“The ministry will continue to provide our beneficiary institutions and TETFUND with unwavering support to fully realize the potential of TERAS”.

Earlier in his remarks, the Executive Secretary of TETFUND, Mr Sunny Echono who noted that the platform would revitalize the Tertiary education landscape, added that policies have been carefully crafted and implemented towards effective service delivery.

“Policies have been carefully crafted and implemented to harness the power of technology, unleashing its immense potential to uplift our educators, empower our students and produce a workforce that is globally competitive and able to address national challenges as well as explore opportunities for sustainable economic growth and development.”

Mr Echono called on beneficiary institutions to utilize the opportunity and enhance the digital capacity development of students.

“Over 2million students and staff of our beneficiary institutions currently captured on our Beneficiary identity management system, BIMS, our target is to grow that number well beyond 3 million before the end of this year”.

Stakeholders in the education sector at the launch, expressed optimism in the value disposition of the platform for effective delivery of the education mandate.

It is also expected that every end of the year, champions of Teras would be celebrated to boost the system across institutions.
