Former Minister Of Internal Affairs Dies In Kano 

Senator Alh. Dr. Bello Maitama Yusuf, a politician and businessman who served as a former minister of internal affairs and trade, went away at the age of 78.

In the early hours of Friday, October 13, 2023, Yusuf, a former senator from 1999 to 2007, passed away in Kano state.

Alhaji Hussaini Dalhatu, a family friend of the dead, informed journalists that Sardauna Dutse’s funeral prayer would be held at the palace of the Emir of Kano following Jumu’at prayer.

First elected in April 1999 and then again in April 2003, Senator Yusuf served as the senator for the Federal Republic of Nigeria’s Jigawa South West district.

In 1979, he was the minister of internal affairs, and in 1982, he was the minister of trade. Notably, he played a key role in reducing the flow of imported commodities into Nigeria as minister for commerce, which had a considerable negative impact on the country’s foreign exchange reserves.

He was given the honorary title of “Sardaunan Dutse” in his native Jigawa.

Grand Commander of the Niger (GCON), a national decoration, was also awarded to him.
