NWFL Approves Premiership Expansion For 2023/2024 Season

The Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) has approved the expansion of teams participating in the 2023/2024 premiership season from 14 to 16 teams.
This decision was made known during the 2023 annual general assembly (AGA) of the NWFL held on Thursday 5th October, 2023 in Lagos state.
The AGA also announced Wednesday 15th November, 2023 as the kick-off date for the new Premiership season.
In line with the expansion of the league, the 22 club representatives present for the AGA confirmed Dannaz Ladies, Sunshine Queens, Lakeside Queens and Ekiti Queens as the teams to be promoted from the Championship to the elite division.
Following the four teams promotion to the premiership, the teams were placed into group A and B, with 8 teams each.
Week one fixtures will see Naija Ratels of Abuja take on Nasarawa Amazons of Lafia, as Confluence Queens of Lokoja hosts newcomers Lagos’ Dannaz Ladies; Abia Angels trades tackles with Adamawa Queens and Heartland Queens go head to head against Royal Queens of Warri in Group A.
In Group B, Ekiti Queens will test the might of defending champions, Delta Queens at the Oluyemi Kayode Stadium on Wednesday 15th November, 2023.
Other fixtures will see Lakeside Queens welcome Rivers Angels, Sunshine Queens lock horns with Bayelsa Queens
and Edo Queens square off against FC Robo Queens of Lagos.
The NWFL Championship has also been expanded to 20 teams from its initial 12 teams.
Ibom Angels and Osun Babes are the two clubs relegated to the NWFL Championship.
