Nigerian Geological Survey Agency, NGSA, has named its Head Office in honor of the Pioneer Director-General of the Agency, Professor Siyanbola Malomo who passed on in London on June 26, 2023.

The Director-General of the Agency, Dr. Abdulrazaq Garba, made this known at the Night of Tributes for the erudite scholar, in Abuja.

Dr. Garba said the NGSA Management evaluated his concern for the infrastructural needs of the Agency while he held sway as Director-General and decided to immortalize the late Professor of Applied Geology by naming the Head Office of the Agency in his honor.

“So the management and staff decided that apart from upholding his legacies, it is also worthwhile to honor Malomo by naming the complex in his honor, and that is what we have done today,’ he stated.

Dr. Garba stated that Prof. Siyanbola Malomo spearheaded the purchase of the land on which the current Head Office of the NGSA is built adding that Malomo was more concerned about ensuring that the Agency flourishes.

‘So the NGSA Head Office is now “Malomo House”, also among the many achievements of the former Director-General is that he was personally concerned about the need to get a befitting office structure to house the administration of the Agency” Dr Garba noted.

He described late Malomo as an intellectual who had a successful career in Scientific Research, Institutional Development and Administration, International Project Management, Strategic Planning, Policy Analysis, and University Teaching.

According to Dr. Garba, Late Malomo was involved in Mineral Policy Development, Geoscience Project Management, Water Resources Management, Geological Engineering and Geohydrology.

Others are Innovation Promotion, formulation of Science and Technology Policy,Technology Transfer, Science and Technology for Development and Ocean Management.

According to Garba, late Malomo, who served meritoriously as the pioneer Director-General of the NGSA is regarded as a nationalist who was responsible for the new shift of the economy to the development of the solid minerals resources of Nigeria.

Dr. Garba stated that Malomo established a remarkable turnaround of moribund institution, the Geological Survey Department of the Ministry of Solid Minerals Development and made it an enviable one.

The Director General of the NGSA who described him as an honest, transparent intellectual with deep commitment to the development of geosciences in Nigerian added that late Malomo was the past Chairman of the Nigeria Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative, NEITI.
