Wike Expresses Satisfaction With Ongoing FCC Road Construction

Minister of the FCT, Nyesom Wike has inspected the ongoing Road construction and resurfacing project in the city center being executed by the FCTA.

Wike who inspected five projects in the FCC expressed satisfaction with the pace and quality of work, with optimism that the projects would be achievable within the stipulated time frame of 8 months.

The Minister in company of the former Governor of Abia State, Dr Okezie Ikpeazu, Permanent Secretary, Mr. Olusade Adesola, the Executive Secretary, FCDA, Shehu Hadi Ahmed and other senior officials of the FCTA, commended the contractors handling the projects and urged them to keep up the good work.

Speaking with Journalists shortly after the inspection, the FCT Minister who revealed that the projects were previously abandoned by the contractors due to nonpayment, said they had returned to the site following payment by the FCT Administration.

The FCT Minister upon assumption of office had invited all contractors to ascertain what the issues were towards finding solution to the menace of abandoned projects in the territory.

At a visit to the Arterial Road N20 under construction, WIke who was received with a warm welcome and hearty cheers from residents, explained to them that he was just a messenger sent by President Bola Tinubu to fix the road and other decays in the territory.

“Eventually, those major companies have gone back to site. Julius Berger is on site. Setraco is on site. CGC is on site, Gilmore is on site. These are the ones we inspected today. Other companies are also on site but I don’t want to talk about them because we have not been on site. Because I believe that we need to see, not merely telling people. So we are happy …By the grace of God, in the next 8 months, all of us will begin to benefit from the construction of these very strategic roads. “WIke said.

The projects visited were, the full scope development of arterial road N20 from Northern Parkway to Outer Northern Expressway, the rehabilitation and expansion of Outer Southern Expressway from Villa Roundabout to Outer Southern Expressway (OSEX)/Ring Road 1 junction with four interchanges.

Others are, the construction of Southern Parkway from Christian Centre (S8/9) to Ring Road 1, the rehabilitation of the Federal Secretariat complex and Completion of roads B6, B12 and Circle Road in FCC.

Speaking on cattle roaming within the city centre, the Minister who revealed that the FCT Administration has plans for cattle rearers outside the city centre, said the Administration would engage the cattle herders on enlightenment talks.

The FCT Minister hinted that the Administration was working to provide alternative transportation systems, before commencing total enforcement on the ban on motorcycles in the city centre.
