The Federal Government has cautioned the Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, and the Trade Union Congress, TUC, against the proposed strike in protest of the hardship associated with petrol subsidy removal.
The Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Prince Lateef Fagbemi, had written to the unions through their lawyer, Chief Femi Falana.
According to the statement, the minister reminds Femi Falana of a subsisting court order issued in a pending suit at the industrial court concerning the matter.
The Minister however advises him to prevail on his clients to respect the court order and allow room for ongoing negotiations to address the challenges associated with the fuel subsidy removal.
The Presidents of the NLC, Joe Ajaero and the TUC, Festus Osifo,
on Tuesday, this week, announced a nationwide indefinite strike beginning on 3rd October, 2023.
According to them, the action is imperative after exhausting all avenues to bring the government to the negotiation table to address the demands of workers.
