Osimhen Ends Goal Drought As Garcia Defends Napoli

todaySeptember 28, 2023

Background

Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen has ended his four games goal drought as he helps Napoli return to winning ways on Wednesday with a 4-1 victory over Udinese at the Estadio Diego Maradona.

Serie A last season top goal scorer, Osimhen, secured his fourth goal of the season in the 39th minute.

Coach Rudi Garica later subbed off the Nigerian for Giovanni Simeone during the 63rd minute.

The striker has been cut up with controversies which started after he was subbed off by Garcia and replaced by Simeone in Napoli’s 0-0 draw against Bologna on Sunday.

Osimhen earlier missed a penalty in the match before Garcia took him off in the 86th minute.

Napoli then posted a video on their TikTok account on Tuesday mocking Osimhen’s penalty miss in the club’s draw against Bologna.

However, his agent has threatened legal actions against the club for having published the video on their official TikTok account.

The Partenopei since deleted, the video mocking the 24 year old striker.

Coach Garcia has come out to defend the Serie A champions actions during his after match reaction on Wednesday, saying;

“Over the last two days there was a bit of trouble with some clumsy behaviour. Nobody wanted to be hurtful, not the TikTok with the video of Victor, nor Victor by taking his photographs down on social media. Nobody intended to hurt anyone, these are instinctive reactions and are understandable,”

Garcia added that the Nigerian striker is still his penalty taker as he has a very good rapport with the 24 year old since the moment he (Garcia) arrived Napoli.

Osimhen has taken down nearly all images of him in a Napoli jersey on his social media accounts.

Napoli are now fifth in the table with 11 points, four points behind the two Milan clubs.
