The Speaker of Nigeria’s House of Representatives, Dr. Tajudeen Abbas has marked his 100 days in office with the distribution of rice as palliatives to fifteen thousand of his constituents in Zaria Federal Constituency of Kaduna State.
In a statement by the Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to the Speaker, Musa Abdullahi Krishi the palliatives were distributed across thirteen wards of the Constituency, which has five hundred and four polling units.
According to the statement, The Speaker’s gesture, under Phase 1 of his palliative measures, is to cushion the effects of the current hardship faced by Nigerians, due to the removal of fuel subsidy.
“Phase 2 of the programme will see another 15,000 constituents of the Speaker benefiting with a total of 30,000 people billed to benefit from the palliative measure.”
“The beneficiaries cut across all political parties, including the APC, PDP and the NNPP, among others.”
According to the statement, the beneficiaries also include religious leaders, traditional rulers, persons with disabilities, and non-governmental organizations.
“The exercise was conducted peacefully as beneficiaries expressed their happiness over the Speaker’s effort to cushion effects of subsidy removal in the area”, the statement adds.
