Abuja Municipal Area Council, AMAC, of the FCT has promised to collaborate with relevant stakeholders willing to support effective healthcare delivery at the grassroots.
The Deputy Director, Health Department of the Area Council, Dr. Uduak Archibong made the promise when the advocacy team implementing the Resilient and Sustainable System for Health in the FCT paid her a visit.
Dr. Archibong who appreciated the team for supporting the council’s Primary Health care centres in sensitizing residents to take ownership and desist from acts that could hinder effective healthcare delivery said they have been consolidating the councils efforts at ensuring that the rural dwellers receive the best in primary healthcare services.
Dr. Archibong who is also in charge of the Kuchingoro Primary Healthcare Centre said the role of a functional PHC in the community cannot be over-emphasised because it is the first point of call for the people.
According to her, with a functional PHC at all wards across the country, Nigerians would be able to access health services in quality time.

While lamenting the lack of space at the Kunchingoro Primary Healthcare and others in suburbs said government cannot do it alone and called on community leaders and other stakeholders to contribute their quota for effective service delivery at the healthcare centres.
“When people in a community can access quality health care services in their locality, at affordable cost and on time, it will enable early detection of infectious diseases, reduce maternal and child mortality, and improve immunization coverage across the country. PHC’s are essential for achieving Universal Health Coverage, UHC. The WHO, UNICEF, Breakthrough Action, ACCOMIN and others have been supportive partners in assisting to discharge our duties, especially, in terms of routine immunization and health workers capacity building”.
She explained further, “Here the community is building one extra room for us, so when it is completed we will decide what the room would be used for, either a consulting room, store or laboratory”.
On his part, the leader of the group, Mr. Simon Samuel said the visit was among other things to advocate training for the health workers, more space for the laboratory in Karomajiji Primary Healthcare Center which were some of the lapses observed in health facilities in the area so as to improve service delivery.
The team also visited the FCT Agency for the Control of HIV/AIDS to advocate the sustainability of prompt supplies of test kits for the prevention of HIV/Aids from mother to child across the Territory.
