Peace Vital For Socio Economic Development – Opara

Promoting peace is vital for rapid socio economic development of any society hence government at all levels must be at the forefront of fostering it.

This assertion was made by a member of the International Association of World Peace Advocates, Amb. Benedict Nneji Opara, in an interview with Kapital FM in Abuja.

Speaking on this year’s International Day of Peace, Amb. Opara explained that the only way the nation can achieve sustainable national development “citizens must desire and seek peaceful coexistence”.

“Peace” is the fabric of the society and essential to make meaningful progress as a nation but at the same time it is a choice, a way of life” he stressed.

He stressed that to achieve peaceful coexistence, there must be total respect for the rights of others and the rule of law.

“We have merchants who thrive in the midst of conflicts and violence and it is like giving paracetamol to someone who is sick of typhoid” Amb Opara noted.

He further emphasized that the absence of dialogue during conflicts cannot guarantee peaceful coexistence that would bring about the sustainable development that we crave for.

Ambassador Opara also appealed to the judiciary to be fair and upright in its responsibility of administering and dispensing justice to the oppressed and less privileged in the society.
