Nigeria Sets To Deploy 16 Volunteers To Liberia

todaySeptember 21, 2023

Background

By Florence Adewale

Nigeria is set to deploy sixteen volunteers to Liberia to further boost bilateral ties between the two countries.

The Director General, Directorate of Technical Aid Corps, Mr. Yusuf Buba-Yakubu made this known while addressing the volunteers in Abuja.

Mr. Buba-Yakubu said the move would also strengthen the present administration’s commitment to collaborate with relevant stakeholders to foster national development.

According to Buba-Yakubu “for us here, our business is to continue to facilitate the recruitment and orientation of Nigerian professionals in diverse fields of endeavour for deployment to recipient countries in Africa, the Caribbean and the Pacific where their professional ingenuity is highly needed. This is what our nation has continued to do since 1967 when the Directorate was established and was perfected by an Act of Parliament No 27 in 1993”.

For the avoidance of doubt, this group of Volunteers has evolved from a long range of processes that includes response to adverts, shortlisting of qualified applicants, interviews, selection as well as other processes”.

The Director General advised the volunteers to remain committed and be good ambassadors of the country in line with the tripartite agreement between Nigeria and the United States.

He explained further, “tripartite agreement and commitment between US and the Federal Republic of Nigeria and you as Volunteers on one hand, and again, between US Government and the Recipient country, in another. We must not fail in any of these, Commitment to Service, Obedience to primary authority and Commitment to the Agreement you have entered with your nation, Nigeria”.

Mr Buba – Yakubu added that the Directorate had put in place necessary modalities towards enhancing its performance.
