The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas says the 10th House will organize training workshops every quarter for reporters covering it.
Dr. Abbas who announced in Abuja during a maiden interactive session with members of the House of Representatives Press Corps at the National Assembly said the training would ensure reporters are fully equipped with the necessary tools to ensure effective parliamentary reporting to Nigerians.
“We have already concretised arrangements and the organisation that is going to champion it has already agreed to a date and time. And I’ll try as much as possible to see that at least every quarter, one training or the other is organized for you people,” Abbas said.
Dr. Abbas who identified the role the media in publicizing activities of the House said the first leg of the training would begin in October.
Earlier, the Chairman of the House Press Corps, Ms Grace Ike stressed that the Corps was committed to promoting good governance through objective and balanced reportage.
She said that any leader who wants to succeed must carry the media along during its activities
“The parliament is a specialized area so there should be training and retraining, journalists should be given utmost priority and we look forward to seeing this materialize,” Ms Ike added.
The session was aimed at enhancing the relationship between the media and the House of Representatives.
