AIU Drags Amusan To CAS for Anti-Doping Violation

The Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU) has filed an appeal with Court of Arbitration for Sports (CAS) to overturn the decision which cleared Tobi Amusan from any wrongdoing after she missed three whereabouts tests within a 12-month period.

Before the World Athletics championship in Budapest, Hungary, Amusan was provisionally suspended for anti-doping rules after she missed three whereabouts control tests

She was later cleared of any wrongdoing by an Independent Disciplinary Tribunal to compete in Budapest.

Amusan was however unable to defend her title, finishing 6th with 12.62s.

The appeal is coming less than 24 hours after Amusan successfully defended and won her third consecutive Diamond League 100m hurdles on Sunday.

Amusan ran a time of 12.33secs ahead of to clinch the gold medal.

AIU on Monday confirmed that they have commenced a legal battle with Nigerian International and the matter has been taken to the Court of Arbitration for Sports ( CAS).

In a statement the AIU said;

“The AIU filed an appeal last Friday (15 September 2023) with the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) against the Disciplinary Tribunal’s decision, dated 17 August 2023, that Tobi Amusan did not commit an anti-doping rule violation for Whereabouts Failures.

The AIU will make no further comment on the matter until the conclusion of the appeal”

Amusan has always stated her innocent, retain she made her whereabouts known during the supposed 12 month period.

The AIU are however using there right to appeal to the CAS as regards the doping case involving Nigerian.
