Parents and guardians in the Federal Capital Territory are urging relevant authorities to address the increase in school fees and inadequate remuneration for teachers in private schools.
At the forefront of a protest held at the Anglican Comprehensive High School in Kubwa, FCT, Mrs. Chika Onuke, the Chairperson, of the ParentsTeachers Association, expressed her disappointment, emphasizing that most private schools had not upheld their agreements with parents and guardians.
Mrs.Chika stressed that despite parents promptly paying school fees and other charges, many private schools had been neglecting timely salary payments to teachers and non-academic staff.
Another concerned parent, Dr. Adewale Oyinlola, warned that if the Federal Ministry of Education did not intervene in regulating private schools in the FCT, the Parents Teachers Association would take action against them.
The parents also decried the poor infrastructural state of some private schools despite the huge levies paid to the schools.
The visibly angry parents who stopped students from entering the school premises pledged to block the school gates until the school management settled the four-month salary arrears owed to teachers.
