D’Tigress of Nigeria has moved up seven places in the latest International Basketball Federation (FIBA) Women’s Rankings.
The Nigerian team put up a superb performance to successfully defend their title for the 4th consecutive time in the 2023 Women’s Afrobasketball Championship in Rwanda.
They defeated their fellow West Africans Senegal 84-74 in the electrifying final in Kigali, Rwanda.
FIBA released the new women’s rankings on Wednesday night.

According to the ranking, coach Rena Wakama’s side rose from 18th to 11th place with 528.9 points.
With the new rankings Mali (18th) and 11 time Afrobasketball Champions Senegal (20th) are the other African teams in the top 20.
Mozambique (32nd) and Egypt(38th) are the countries that complete the top 5 African countries.
6 time Afrobasketball Champions, D’Tigress where already the number one team in Africa before the new FIBA rankings.
The top women basketball teams in the world according to FIBA are USA who seats in first with 834.6, China (2nd) Australia (3rd), Spain (4th) and Canada (5th) highest ranked teams.
Completing the top ten teams in the world are Belgium (6th), France (7th), Brazil(8th), Japan(9th) and Serbia(10th).
