AMAC Calls For Transparency On Proposed Revenue Harmonization

todayJuly 11, 2023

Background

The Chairman, Abuja Municipal Area Council, AMAC, Christopher Maikalangu, says implemention of the proposed revenue harmonisation by the FCT Inland Revenue Service, FCT-IRS should be adequately monitored for improved service delivery.

Speaking at a panel discussion, during a town hall meeting on harmonization of revenue in Abuja, Maikalangu was of the opinion that harmonization of revenue is a gradual process to achieve the desired result.

According to/him, the FCT – IRS should start the revenue harmonisation with the Department of Out Door Advertisement Service, DOAS, Abuja Environmental Protection Board, AEPB, Vehicle Inspection Officers VIO, Water Board among others.

The AMAC Boss who said he was in support of the move however stressed that consultations with revenue experts and stakeholders were ongoing so as to follow the path of other revenue benefiting states of the federation to harmonize the revenue streams.

He however proposed that the AMAC taskforce on revenue monitoring and collection be collapsed into the FCT-IRS to ensure more transparency, accountability and trust, so that the taskforce can continue aiding the FCT-IRS in apprehending illegal revenue collectors and invaders.

Speaking earlier, the Acting Executive Chairman FCT-IRS, Haruna Abdullahi, pleaded for cooperation of the six area councils and stakeholders, for the interest of FCT residents.

On his part, the immediate past Senator representing the FCT, Senator Philip Aduda, urged all parties involved in the revenue harmonization, especially area council chairmen, to adhere to the legal framework.

In his goodwill message, the Onah of Abaji, Yunusa Adamu, urged the FCT-IRS to ensure that taxation of FCT residents has human face.
