Kogi state Governor, Alhaji Yahaya Bello says his administration remains committed to ensuring good governance.

Governor Bello gave the assurance in a statewide broadcast to celebrate Nigeria’s 58th anniversary.

He said the anniversary was worthy of celebration but however acknowledged that much needed to be done to take Nigeria to greater heights.

According to him, the day afforded every patriotic citizen the opportunity for re-evaluation in the  quest for true federalism.

Governor Bello remarked that security will remain top priority of government as huge sums had been expended to tackle crimes and criminality.

While noting that reforms in the State Civil Service had been daunting, he gave assurance that workers as well as pensioners would soon enjoy full payment of salaries and arrears of their emoluments.

The Governor granted prerogatives of mercy and pardoned five convicts presently serving various terms in prison across the state.

“The decision was sequel to the recommendation of the Council on the Prerogative of Mercy and in exercise of the powers bestowed on him under Section 212 (1) a, b, c and d of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria as Amended.”

Alhaji Bello advised politicians to play by the rules and avoid breaching of peace across the state as government would not hesitate to bring perpetrators of violence to book.

He further stressed that government would strive to ensure the resettlement of displaced persons and rehabilitation of flood affected communities immediately the water recedes.
