The Family Federation for World Peace and Unification wants character education to be integrated in school curriculum to assist students acquire good values.
National President of the Organization, Rev George Ogurie, made the call while presenting a paper at the FCT Public Schools teacher training workshop in Abuja, on the need to educate for character.
The program which was organized in collaboration with FCT Universal Basic Education was meant to train the teachers who will teach the subjects to drive appropriate skills for social cohesion and economic progress in the country.
“Many young people have lost values that makes the nation proud, they indulge in cultism, drug abuse, prostitution and kidnapping.
” A change of character is urgently needed as this situation have affected our economy. Niger Delta violence which have frightened away potential investors and tourists and replaced it with IDP’s and refugees “.
He urged all stakeholders to see investment in character building like investing in Power supply.
” We are conducting this teachers training in the six Area Councils in FCT. We are done with AMAC, today is for Bwari and plans are ongoing to carry out the training in all states across the country”
Rev Ogurie stressed the need for synergy with parents, teachers, religious leaders and traditional rulers to achieve effective character education in Nigeria.
The four days workshop was well attended by teachers of various public Schools in the FCT.
