The International Human Rights Commission IHRC is to provide Scholarship Award to over 200 Women to study at various Universities and other Higher Institutions abroad.
The Country Director of IHRC Dr Friday Sani who stated this at an event to mark this year’s International Women’s Day in Abuja said the measure was to empower women and promote Girl Child Education in the country.
He said already the international organization was organising seminars and workshops to create awareness for Women on their rights and ways to contribute towards total emancipation of women in the society.
Dr Sani who is also the organisation’s Commissioner in-charge of West Africa called on wealthy individuals and non governmental organizations to initiate more empowerment Programmes to protect rights of women.
The newly appointed Ambassador and Head of IHRC for Plateau state Dr Haruna Ibrahim stressed the need for the Federal and State Governments to strengthen relevant agencies in ensuring that rights of women and girls are protected at all times.
Dr Ibrahim however appealed to men to promote issues that would empower women towards contributing to national development.
