Agriculture: Over 250 Women To be Empowered To Boost Food Production In FCT
The National Agricultural Mechanisation Corporative Society is to empower over two hundred and fifty unemployed women in the FCT to boost food production particularly in the poultry sector.
The President, of the organization Mr. Aliyu Waziri made this known at the inauguration of FCT coordinators to kick start the programme in Abuja.
Mr. Waziri explained that the programme became necessary as part of government’s efforts to fast track economic growth through empowerment programmes.
Outlining the conditions required for the project, National Vice President of the organisation Mr. Aminu Abdulkadir urged the participants not to misuse the opportunity rather build trust and portray image of the country by ensuring that the farm produce meet international best practices.
“This is not a free lunch, this is not a political gift it is for those who are ready to work, if you have taken care of five chickens before you will know what it means and here you will be given one thousand, it is labour intensive, and it’s being supported by the federal government to create jobs to alleviate poverty and give a sense of belonging to our women”.
Some of the intended beneficiaries at the occasion who spoke with kapital FM applauded government for the initiative and pledged to put in their best for enhanced economic development.
The organisation in collaboration with other relevant agencies are expected to supervise the farms to achieve expected goals.
