The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Dr Nyesom Wike, has lauded President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for promptly signing the Electoral Act Amendment Bill 2026 into law.
In a statement on Wednesday by his Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media, Mr Lere Olayinka, the minister described the President’s action as a demonstration of his commitment to deepening the democratic process and making elections more credible.
Wike said the passage of the amended Electoral Bill by the National Assembly and the President’s swift assent have put an end to unnecessary protests by those preparing excuses for their impending electoral loss.
Wike in the Statement stated that democracy is a work in progress and continues to evolve.
He added that regularly reviewing the Electoral Act to strengthen the democratic process will ensure continuous improvement.
“I therefore congratulate Mr. President and members of the National Assembly for playing their roles in strengthening democracy in this dispensation.
“Particularly, I commend the President for not keeping Nigerians waiting for more than 24 hours before signing the Electoral Act Amendment Bill 2026 into law.”
