The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has reaffirmed its resolve to strengthen internal revenue generation as a means of sustaining infrastructure development and service delivery across the territory.
This position was made known by the Chairman of the FCT Internal Revenue Service (FCT-IRS), Mr. Michael Ango, and the Director of Lands Administration, Mr. Chijioke, during the first Federal Capital Territory Executive Council (EXCO) meeting of 2026, chaired by the FCT Minister, Dr. Nyesom Wike.
Speaking on behalf of the revenue agencies, the Chairman of FCT-IRS, Michael Ango, said the administration remains committed to providing quality infrastructure and a conducive living environment for residents of the FCT.
He stressed that sustainable development in the nation’s capital is directly tied to revenue compliance by residents, and appealed to residents of Abuja to fulfil their civic responsibilities by paying all statutory charges due to the FCTA.
“We continue to urge and appeal to Abuja residents to pay their due taxes, their due fees, their levies, ground rents, and all other charges due to the FCTA, as we can all see what this revenue is being used for.
“Development can only be sustained if we are able to generate revenue within the FCTA to provide world-class infrastructure and social services,” Ango said.
While emphasising voluntary compliance, Ango warned that enforcement measures would be applied where necessary, and urged defaulters to pay their taxes to avoid sanctions.
“Where you are in default, the FCTA would have no option but to enforce our right to the revenue that is due to all of us as Abuja residents,” Ango stated.
He noted that compliance would enable the administration to deliver a capital city that residents can be proud of, in line with the vision of the FCT Minister and the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
Also speaking, the Director of Lands Administration, Mr. Chijioke Nwankwoeze, underscored the importance of complying with land-related statutory payments, particularly ground rents and CofO fees.
“To ensure continuity in project implementation, residents must comply with land charges and statutory obligations, as revenue remains critical to financing development across the FCT,” he said.
Both officials reiterated that the renewed revenue drive is aimed at ensuring uninterrupted project execution and positioning Abuja as a world-class capital city through collective responsibility and compliance.
On his part, the Chief of Staff to the FCT Minister, Chidi Amadi, who expressed optimism that 2026 will be a productive year for the FCTA, disclosed that the council considered and approved five critical memoranda aimed at driving the development of the capital city.
He also commended media organisations for their cooperation and extensive coverage of FCTA activities in 2025, noting that the partnership between the administration and the press played a significant role in projecting government programmes and policies to the public.
The EXCO also approved projects in the education sector and internal road resurfacing.
