The Chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN, in the 19 Northern States and the Federal Capital Territory, Reverend Yakubu Pam, has called on Christians to remain steadfast in faith, unity, and service as the New Year 2026 begins.
In a New Year message, Reverend Pam expressed gratitude to God for sustenance throughout the past year, noting that despite economic hardship, insecurity, and social uncertainty, the Church continued to pray, serve, comfort the afflicted, and proclaim hope across communities.
He said the preservation of lives and the strengthening of communities are testimonies of God’s grace, for which all glory must be returned to Him.
Reverend Pam reminded Christians in Northern Nigeria that while they are citizens of heaven, they must remain actively engaged in addressing the social, economic, moral, and spiritual challenges facing the nation, describing Nigeria as a land in need of healing at all fronts.
He urged the Church to continue praying without ceasing in the face of insecurity, unemployment, rising living costs, and communal tensions, while speaking truth with wisdom, promoting peace and integrity, resisting despair, and rejecting hatred.
The CAN Chairman reaffirmed prayers for leaders at all levels of government and called for leadership anchored on justice, equity, accountability, and the sanctity of human life, stressing that sustainable national renewal must be driven by moral responsibility and good governance, not policies alone.
Reverend Pam also called for deeper unity among Christians across denominations, urging believers to stand together in prayer, service, and advocacy, and to be known for love that heals divisions, hope that uplifts communities, and faith expressed through selfless service.
He encouraged Christians not to lose heart or surrender their moral voice in the year ahead, expressing confidence that God remains at work in the nation, “Arise, shine; for your light has come, and the glory of the Lord is risen upon you.”
Reverend Yakubu Pam prayed that God would grant wisdom, courage, and grace to His people, strengthen the Church in Northern Nigeria, and bring healing, justice, and renewed hope to the nation, while wishing Nigerians a peaceful and blessed New Year.
