Binance : House Commits To Transparency, Constitutional Oversight Functions

todayFebruary 16, 2025

Background

The House of Representatives has dismissed recent media reports alleging bribery involving some lawmakers in the ongoing Binance investigation, stating that the claims target individuals, not the institution.

In a statement in Abuja by the House Spokesperson, Akin Rotimi, the statement maintains that the House remains committed to due process, the rule of law, and its constitutional oversight functions.

Rotimi clarifies that the bribery allegations, which surfaced last year, have been denied by the named lawmakers, with one already pursuing legal action to clear his name.

The House leadership has also encouraged others implicated to seek redress through the courts.

He further reveals that the matter has escalated into a high-level government-to-government issue between Nigeria and the United States, with the Federal Government prioritizing national interest over external pressure.

According to the Lawmaker, Nigeria rejected settlement offers from Binance, raising doubts about the motive behind the bribery claims.

The spokesperson emphasizes that the case is now before a competent court and remains part of ongoing diplomatic discussions, as such, the House will refrain from further comments to respect judicial and diplomatic protocols.

Rotimi urges the public to rely on verified facts rather than recycled allegations designed to undermine public confidence in Nigeria’s democratic institutions.

The House reaffirms its commitment to transparency, accountability, and the protection of Nigeria’s democratic processes.
