A United Kingdom based philanthropist, Miriam Virgo has embarked on a two day outreach to distribute learning materials to secondary students at Chika and food items to the vulnerable at an orphanage home in Abuja.

At the occasion, Miss Virgo who said the move was part of efforts to celebrate the International Women’s day, said it would also encourage Nigerians especially children to actualise their dreams of becoming great leaders in the society.

She also explained that her choice of celebrating in Nigeria was informed by the experience she had when she visited and saw children roaming the streets begging for alms.

Virgo who is the founder of “Fire Fighters UK” said this would be a continuous exercise in collaboration with other stakeholders in Nigeria to push for support from UK based organisations to assist Nigeria actualise the dream of ensuring all children of school age are enrolled into schools.

Responding, the Founder of the Orphanage home, Mrs Ngozi Anih-George who appreciated the organisation for the gesture called on government to extend the National Health Insurance Scheme to children in orphanages to reduce the out of pocket health expenditure on caregivers who have other bills to settle on behalf of the children.
