President Bola Tinubu says he will continue to support research in science and technology directly and through various government policies and programmes to enable Nigeria compete favourably in those fields.
He made the commitment in Abuja while receiving an investiture from the Nigeria Academy of Science as Grand Patron of Science.
The President expressed the belief that without research in science and technology, as well as their applications, development and progress would elude communities that refuse to indulge in exploring their advancements.
He said the Ministries of Science and Technology, Health, Education, and other related establishments would be mobilised to work with the Academy to achieve the intended purpose.
Earlier, the President of the Nigeria Academy of Science, Professor Ekanem Braide, told President Tinubu that many of the plagues causing socio-economic problems in Africa could be addressed through the application of science, technology but utilisation of research outcomes in formulating policies was not optimum.
She warned that until a healthy collaboration among researchers, all tiers of government, industries, and communities was established and maintained, national problems could not be conclusively addressed.
