Quadri Aruna and Offiong Edem won one silver and one bronze for team Nigeria in table tennis at the 13th 2023 African Games in Ghana.
In the men’s singles final on Wednesday, Quadri Aruna was beaten by Egyptian rival Omar Assar 4-3.
While, Offiong Edem took bronze on Tuesday becoming the first athlete to earn Team Nigeria a medal at the African Games in Accra after losing 4-0 in her semi-final clash with Egypt’s Dina Meshref.

Speaking after winning the bronzing, Edem said that the world championship helped improve her game.
“I am so happy that we were able to attend the last World Championships in Korea and this really helped my game a lot.
I want to thank the Nigeria Table Tennis Federation (NTTF) for their support and I believe attending such a competition really helped me personally here in Ghana.”
Meanwhile, female table tennis star, Edem also revealed reasons why Nigeria is not at the same level with Egypt in the sporting world. Despite Nigeria’s massive improvement in the game.
“The Egyptians are ahead of us because they attend more competitions than us and we hope we can get such support to return to the top of the game in Africa.”
The 13th African Games will officially open on Friday 8th and end Saturday 23rd March 2024, with countries participating in 23 sports games.
This is the second time in history that the games will be decentralized, as three cities in the host country will host the event.
The three cities chosen for the All African Games are Accra, Kumasi, and Cape Coast.
