Nigerians have been urged to disregard an online publication of alleged coup plot in Nigeria.
According to a statement by the Acting Director of Defence Information Brigadier General Tukur Gusau, in Abuja, the publication claiming the Guards Brigade was placed on high alert, is baseless and entirely false.
The Defence Headquarters firmly clarifies that the Guards Brigade, responsible for safeguarding the seat of power and the Federal Capital Territory, has always been on high alert as part of its statutory duties.
The statement further explains that the Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa
has consistently emphasized the Armed Forces’ commitment to upholding democracy in Nigeria.
While condemning the unfounded assertions, the Defence Headquarters urged the public to disregard such misinformation, labeling it as mere fabrications.
It calls on relevant security agencies to take necessary action against what it describes as unpatriotic content adding that the Defence Headquarters plans to pursue legal action against the publication to address what it perceives as an attempt to trigger unnecessary tension within the nation.
