FCT Minister, Mr Nyesom Wike has flagged-off the 5km Naharati- River -Ukya- Angwan- Hausawa road in Abaji, assuring the people that he is committed to keep all promises made, towards winning back their confidence in Government.
During the flag off, the Minister who noted that the focus on rural road development was in line with the renewed hope aganda, emphasised that all ongoing road projects in the area councils would be completed before the end of this year.
Wike announced that funding won’t be an hindrance to the completion of the rural projects, but again, issued a stern warning to directors overseeing the projects, that he would not tolerate any act of sabotage, hoarding and delay of files.
He stressed that contract variation is not in his dictionary, and would not tolerate that from any contractor.
“Woe unto that director who will keep a file, that I have approved, for weeks. Woe unto you because you are a saboteur. Once I approve, do the needful. You can take a week to do due diligence. You don’t need to take 20 days. The contractors are humans. When the money does not get to them on time, they incur more costs and then they begin to seek variation even though they know that variation is not in my dictionary”, Wike warned.
Despite the harsh economic realities in the country, Wike encouraged Nigerians, particularly residents to be patient with the Government of President Tinubu, adding that, things will soon turn around for good.
“I know that you had suffered quiet a lot in the past and you want things to change immediately. I want to appeal to you to be patient. I will never associate myself with anything that will not work. As i assure you that things will turn around positively”.
He commended the Abaji chairman for keeping in touch with the people at the grassroots, and urged all chairmen to ensure that they initiate people oriented projects that will make residents partake in the dividends of democracy.
The Minister also commended area council chairmen for delivering services to their people irrespective of their ethnic and political party affiliations as he urged them to do everything to bring development to their areas.
Wike further mandated the contractors to employ the teeming youths in executing the road construction work, pointing out that job creation is another major priority of President Tinubu.
The event was attended by the Ona of Abaji, Alhaji Baba- Yunusa, Senator Phillip Aduda, other Senators and dignitaries.
Earlier, Chairman of Abaji Area Council, Abdullahi Abubakar, said the road when completed would decongest the express way and facilitate the movement of goods, especially agricultural produce from the hinterland.
Mr Abubakar and others in their various good will messages Certified Wike as Mr Project, just as the youths hailed Wike as their Mentor, Father and the best Minister ever in the FCT.
According to them, this is the second time, Wike is visiting Abaji area council within the space of 6 months that he assumed office.
This is the fifth rural road flagged off by the minister this year.
