The Nigerian Legion, in collaboration with the Military Widows Association (MIWA), has Flagged off its annual Mass Transit Stickers and Tickets for nationwide distribution.
This is part of efforts to support the families of fallen heroes who paid the supreme price in service to the nation as well as ex-servicemen.
While flagging off the stickers and tickets at the Nigerian Legion Headquarters in Abuja, the National Chairman, Nigerian Legion, Rtd Major General Abdulmalik Jibril, appealed to members of the public to support the initiative so that those who served diligently in the military and their families are not forgotten.
“Those who have served and retired, those who died in active duty and left loved ones behind as well as the incapacitated must be supported for the selfless service they rendered”.
Abdulmalik expressed gratitude to President Bola Tinubu, who under the Poverty Alleviation Program extended benefits to members of the Legion, ex-servicemen, widows and the incapacitated.
He therefore used the opportunity to call on all members of the Legion to register to benefit from the program.
“These stickers are launched and will be sold to the public as we call for support in recognition of the sacrifices made by our Armed Forces, those who paid the supreme price, those who served and left, those without limbs and have families to support, through these stickers, the revenue generated will be used to cater for some of their enormous needs”.
“We are still generating the list of all ex-servicemen, though some have already been generated and passed on to the Ministry of Defence, to the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation.”
The National President of, the Military Widows Association, Mrs Veronica Aloko earlier acknowledged the leadership style of the National Chairman of, the Nigerian Legion who continues to carry the plight of the widows with all seriousness.
She said all the projects being undertaken by the Legion and MIWA were to help widows and retirees lessen their burdens through the revenue realised.
The Military Widows Association (MIWA) is an initiative that strives to provide for and protect the families of the fallen heroes as the organization is dedicated solely to the needs, concerns and welfare of military surviving spouses and dependent children, while the Nigerian Legion was established to cater for the welfare of ex-servicemen.
