In an effort to further equip the Nigerian Armed Forces with high-tech and other military equipment for effective service delivery, the Minister of Defence, Mohammed Badaru, is seeking to partner Turkey in the production of military hardware and equipment.

This is contained in a statement by the Director of Press and Public Relations of the Ministry, Henshaw Ogubike, in Abuja.

According to the statement, the Minister, who is determined to enhance the capabilities of the Nigerian Armed Forces with cutting-edge military hardware and equipment, recently visited Turkey to discuss potential collaboration between Nigeria and Turkey in the production of military equipment.

The statement notes that the Minister, accompanied by the Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Hassan Abubakar, visited Turkish Aerospace Industries in Ankara to inspect various sections of the company responsible for manufacturing modern military aircraft and defense equipment.

Badaru, while acknowledging Turkey’s expertise in the manufacturing of military facilities, expresses Nigeria’s interest in exploring potential cooperation with Turkey in intelligence and information sharing, with the aim of achieving mutual benefits in defense collaboration between the two nations.

Earlier, one of the stakeholders in Turkey, Engineer Temel Kotel, who guided the minister’s entourage on a tour of these manufacturing facilities, revealed that the primary objective of the industry is the production of military aircraft, satellites, and unmanned aerial vehicles.
