The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC says it will engage 1,255 personnel from 94 media organizations for effective coverage of next Month’s off cycle governorship elections in Kogi, Imo, and Bayelsa States.

INEC Chairman, Professor Mahmoud Yakubu who stated this in Abuja during a meeting with Media Executives explained that in the next few days, the accredited media organisations would be notified for the collection of identity cards for their staff.

Professor Yakubu told the Media Executives that the mock accreditation conducted using actual voters in designated polling units in the three States by the Commission was succesful.

Professor Yakubu also said that the Commission would meet with security agencies to ensure safety of journalists, technical staff and equipment deployed by the media organizations on Election Day as well as granting the media unhindered access to polling and collation locations.

He urged members of the media to strictly adhere to the ethics of the profession and guard against fake news.

In a remark, the Director News, Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria, FRCN, Husseina Akila promised continued support of the media towards strengthening the nation’s electoral process.

She also urged journalists that would be deployed to cover the governorship elections to bring their professionalism to bear in the course of the exercise.
