Former EFCC Chairman Released

The immediate-past Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Abdurasheed Bawa, has been released from detention.

The Department of State Security, DSS in a statement by the Director Public Relations and Strategic Communications, Peter Afunanya confirms his release in the late hours of Wednesday the 25th of October 2023.

Bawa was arrested by the DSS on June 14, 2023, after his suspension from office as EFCC Chairman by President Bola Tinubu over alleged abuse of office.

Since his arrest and detention, the department of state security did not formally charge him to court for any specific offence.
