The Federal Government has been urged to create an enabling environment for Nigerians to be engaged to earn a living.
A guest on “Politics Today” a Kapital FM current Affairs programme, Elder Emmanuel Ejodame stated this while featuring on the programme in Abuja.
Elder Ejodame who is a political Analyst stressed that since over 80 per cent of Nigerians engage in agriculture, a secured environment would improve the social and economic well-being of the people.
Speaking on the topic “Tasks ahead for the new ministers, he also called on the new ministers to carry Nigerians along through constant interaction to chart a way forward adding that the people should not be governed base on assumption.
He said such interactions was imperative to encourage productivity and address challenges militating against sustainable growth in agriculture adding that the measure would enhance wealth creation and food security.
“There is no empowerment that will help address poverty in rural areas like supporting the agriculture sector where the majority of our people could be reached,” he stressed.
Also, another guest on the programme, a public Affairs Analyst, Elder Emma Okoro who scored President Bola Ahmed Tinubu 85% for his cabinet appointments for including women and youths commended him for bringing governance closer to the people.
He urged the state government to use the additional funds from the Federation Account Allocation Committee (FAAC) to invest in agriculture.
Elder Okoro said farming was the only sector the government could leverage at all levels to change the economic fortunes of the country.
According to him most farmers could not cultivate their farmlands due to a hike in prices of fertilisers and inputs occasioned by fuel subsidy removal.
“It is good to increase investment in agriculture and enhance farmer support services following the increase in FAAC allocation to states” he added.
