FG Poised To Harness Mineral Wealth For Development – Ogbe

The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Mines and Steel Development, MMSD, Dr. Mary Ogbe says the Federal Government is poised to harness the nation’s mineral wealth for Sustainable Economic Growth and Development.

Dr. Ogbe stated this while unveiling the 8th edition of the Nigeria Mining Week in Abuja.

She explained that to boost the non oil sector, Government is committed in creating a conducive business environment that will showcase the diverse investment prospects available in Nigeria.

According to her, the Nigeria Mining Week serves as a unique platform that brings together Government Officials, Mining Companies, Investors, Technology Providers, and various Stakeholders to engage in insightful discussions, knowledge sharing, and collaboration aimed at unlocking the full potential of Nigeria’s Mining Industry.

“This event promises to be a significant platform for key stakeholders in the mining industry to converge and discuss the pivotal role that Nigeria’s critical mineral resources play in fostering economic growth and sustainable development Objectives” Dr. Ogbe added.

The Permanent Secretary further explained that the event will create Investment Opportunities for investors to explore potential investment opportunities within Nigeria’s Mining Ecosystem and provide ample networking opportunities, that will also foster connections among Industry Players, Government Representatives, and Service Providers.

In his remark, the President Miners Association of Nigeria, Dele Ayanleke who stressed for stakeholders partner in sharing ideas with policy makers on ways to manage the nation’s resources for economic growth and development by accelerating the process of industrial revolution and taking advantage of the nation’s mineral endowments.

“This occasion may not permit the enumeration of the various conversations that had contributed, and still contributing, to policy initiatives in the industry, but you will bear witness with me that the communique emanating from the various editions of this annual event had constituted a major ingredient to policy decisions changing the sectoral narratives and gradually shaping the Nigerian mining landscape” Ayanleke stated.

In his presentation, head of mining sector and business development PricewaterhouseCoopers, PWC, Habeeb Jaiyeola represented by Chuma Amazigo said the mining sector remains one of the key sectors that would contribute significantly to the diversification agenda of the current administration’s need to move Nigeria into a non oil dependent economy.

He emphasized that the event is positioned to ensure that all the achievements in the Nigerian mining sector are being showcased to the international community and local mining investors.

On his part, the event director from Vuka group, Mr. Samukelo Madlabane explained that the annual mining week serves as a compass guiding Nigeria toward harnessing the full potential of its abundant minerals resources and boundless opportunities within the mining industry.

“Nigeria’s vast endowment of minerals places it on the precipice of international investment prominence” he added.

“The theme of this year’s mining week is “Capitalizing on Nigeria’s Critical Mineral Resources for Economic Growth”.
