No fewer than four people have reportedly died, while seven others sustained various degrees of injuries when some part of the oldest Zaria Central Mosque collapsed while some worshippers were observing Asar Prayers at about 4.00 pm on Friday.
Speaking on the incident at his palace, the Emir of Zazzau, Malam Ahmed Nuhu Bamalli said that the old part of the mosque was the affected area as a result of a leaking roof that led to the crack of the structure.
Intelregion reported that Emir Bamalli confirmed the number of death and injuries as a result of the collapsed side of the mosque.
He extended condolences to the families of those that lost their loved ones as well as prayed for the quick recovery of the injured ones who are receiving treatment at St. Lukes Hospital, Wusasa, and Gambo Sawaba General Hospital Kofar Gayan.
The emir, therefore, ordered the closure of the mosque until when building professionals give the go-ahead for its safety.
The funeral prayers of the five persons will take place by 8.00 pm at the emir’s Palace in Zaria City.
Rescue teams from Police, Civil Defence, KADVIS, Fire Service, FRSC, and First Aids Groups have worked tirelessly in rescuing the trapped victims
