The Acting Comptroller General of Immigration, Mrs Caroline Adepoju says the Service will do everything possible to ensure total control of land borders with Niger Republic in the light of the ongoing political instability in that country.
In a statement by the Service’s Public Relations Officer, Aridegbe Adedotun, the Acting CGI commended officers and men at the Illela border control post in Sokoto State for effective implementation of the Federal Government’s directive to temporarily close land borders with the Niger Republic.
According to the statement, the Acting CGI reiterates the importance of inter-agency collaboration and intelligence gathering while securing the nation’s borders.
The statement says the Acting CGI while on the tour visited the Governor of Sokoto State, Alhaji Ahmad Aliyu, and the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar, and solicited their support in effectively managing the borders.
Mrs. Adepoju also visited some personnel in the hospital who was recently attacked by bandits at the Maman Suka checkpoint and pledged to assist the families of officers that lost their lives in the attack.
