The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC has called on security agencies to deal decisively with perpetrators of violence ahead of the governorship election in Kogi, Bayelsa and Imo States.
INEC Chairman Professor Mahmood Yakubu made the call in Abuja during an Inter Agency Consultative Committee Meeting on Election Security to review the 2023 General Election.
Professor Yakubu maintained that security agencies must also take action against other undemocratic activities such as vote buying, attacks on election officials and disruption of electoral process during the November Governorship Election.
The INEC Boss Commended security agencies for their professional conduct towards the successful conduct of the polls.
National Security Adviser and Co Chairman of the Committee, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu assured INEC and Nigerians that Security agencies would continue to provide conducive environment for Nigerians to participate in the nation’s electoral process.
The meeting was attended by the acting Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun and representatives of other security agencies.
