The Federal Government is to put in place necessary modalities towards boosting productivity in Economic Free Zones in the country.
The Special Adviser to the President on Industry, Trade and Investment, Mr John Uwajimogu stated this in Abuja at a Roundtable with Stakeholders on the Economic Free Zones.
Mr Uwajimogu who described Economic Free Zones as key to national development said the forum was organized for stakeholders to brainstorm on how to reposition the sector towards realizing the Renewed Hope agenda of President Bola Tinubu in the economy and Investment.
He therefore called for effective public- private sector collaboration in making Economic Free Zones vibrant revenue earner for the country towards increasing the country ‘s GDP.
In a remark, the Managing Director/CEO of Nigeria Export Processing Zones Authority, NEPZA, Prof. Adesoji Adesugba said additional Free Trade Zones had been established in the country towards adding value to the nation’s economy.
Prof. Adesugba who said NEPZA’s Act would be reviewed towards ensuring more investment in Economic Free Zones said the Authority had established Security Outfits towards protecting lives and property in the Zones.
He stressed the need for State Governments to develop keen interest in investing in Economic Free Zones to create job opportunities, Reduce poverty and enhance development.
Earlier, the President of National Economic Zones, NEZ, Chief Nabel Saleh appealed for more enabling environment for operators of Economic Zones in the country.
Chief Saleh said NEZ would continue to compliment the efforts of the Federal Government towards making Economic Free Zones an avenue for economic development.
Other Speakers at the Forum called for the provision of basic infrastructure such as electricity, roads, water among others to boost activities in Economic Free Zones nationwide
