NSCDC Solicits Support To Combat Crime In AMAC

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, has appealed for support of the Executive Chairman of the Abuja Municipal Area Council, AMAC, Christopher Zakka Maikalangu, for urgent intervention in tackling crime in the Area.

This is contained in a statement in Abuja by the Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Mr Kingsley Madaki.

According to the statement, the NSCDC made the requests during a familiarization visit to the Chairman in Abuja.

It states that during the visit, Gloria Palmer, who is the NSCDC Area Commander of Jikwoyi, Karu, Nyanya and Karshi, decried the menace of scavengers, kidnappers, armed robbers and other undesirable elements bent on frustrating the efforts of the Corps in combating crime.

The statement however stressed that with effective collaboration with security stakeholders, the high rate of crime in the areas will be reduced and perpetrators brought to justice.

It however adds that the urgent intervention of the chairman is needed for them to combat crime, especially with regards to official vehicles and other security apparatus to tackle the menace.

According to the statement, the Commander also expressed regret that scavengers are now involved in stealing and selling babies leaving the primary occupation of picking metals.

In his response, Maikalangu assured that the requests will be forwarded to the appropriate authorities for timely action in line with his administration’s policy in following due process.

According to the statement, the chairman said that the vehicles will be budgeted for and given to the NSCDC in due time.

It explains that the chairman therefore asked the Speaker of AMAC, to ensure provision for three vehicles for NSCDC to cover three political areas is captured in the budget.
